Talking Biologicals on Rural America Live

Introducing biological products into crop management programs to help combat the ongoing fertilizer crisis was the main focus of Rural America Live featuring DPH Biologicals. Mick Messman and Joe Hansen explained the science behind the company’s flagship product, SP-1 Classic™, and how growers are using the TerraTrove biologicals platform this spring to ensure soil health and nutrient uptake. The one-hour program peaked the interest of farmers across the country, with growers from Nebraska to Texas, New York to Oregon calling in to learn more.
“DPH Biologicals has a rich heritage, in fact, some of the products have been used for well over two decades. It was the validation of those products that really drew me to DPH Bio,” Messman explained as he spoke on the biology and fertility portfolio DPH Biologicals is known for.
Missouri grower Derek Davis described how using SP-1, paired with a few other nutrients, has helped his operation in the past and during this year’s fertilizer shortage. “It (SP-1) allowed us, by being more intentional with our fertilizer plan, to actually be able to cut back on some of the other fertilizers we would put down.” Davis’ operation has used SP-1 Classic on a variety of crops including corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa. “At the end of the day, it’s all about getting the highest possible revenue per acre, and SP-1 Classic is doing it for us,” Derek said.
Nathan Hykes with Growmark, whose customers use SP-1 Classic, elaborated on how the product helps establish a more vigorous root system, improved soil aggregation, and decreased sidewall compaction. Hykes said, when we “take a grower out to the field with a shovel, they see the difference, and it goes from ‘I tried SP-1 on a few acres’ to “it’s on all my acres!’”
